Inspiration from unlikely places

Ever since me and my wife started dating she has been into bird watching. She's not a part of any bird watching club or anything, but when we go away on vacation or to the park to hang out she enjoys spotting birds she recognizes and looking for birds she's never seen before then later looking the bird up in her bird watching book to identify it. She would always ask me to join her in her bird watching explorations and I would always do so half heartedly as it was something I wasn't really interested in. But, recently I picked up one of her bird books just to look through it and was blown away by how beautiful the colors of a lot of these birds are and how nature organically puts together these amazing color stories. So now when I am working on a design project I often look through my wife's bird books for color inspiration.

What are some of the ways you look for color inspiration for your projects? Let me know in the comments section.

Flat Design Illustrations by Marko Stupic

All of my life I wished I was a great sketch/illustration artist and their have been many periods in my life where I would practice and try to perfect my drawing skills, but I always lose track. Maybe this year I will take Croatian designer and illustrator Marko Stupic's lead on doing a daily illustration project.

Marko Stupic is using this project, where he illustrates city views, landscapes, and everyday objects in a flat design style all within a circle, as a way to develop his artistic skills.

View some of my favorites below and head on over to Mark Stupic's site to see more of what he does.

Duet Display

I’ve been using Duet Display for the past few weeks and it is amazing! Duet Display is an app created by ex-Apple engineers that allows you to use your iPad or iPhone as an extra display for your Mac using a Lightning or 30-pin cable. Before Duet Display I was using my Macbook Pro as an extra display to my iMac (which is still my main set-up when I am working on projects in my home office), but duet display is great for when I want to get away from my desk and work off my Macbook Pro from a cafe or in my living room while watching television.

Head on over to Duetdisplay.com for more info and to download the app for yourself.
